Mr. Zizek offers interesting observations concerning the worldwide consequences which have emerged from the fall of the Berlin Wall - observations which I am indeed inclined to accept. Especially his remarks about the reasons for numerous failures of post-communist regimes in Eastern Europe in their attempts to apply capitalistic criterions to their political systems appear to be completely right: people living in the East of Europe (after having been forced to live for a long period of time under the reign of communist terror) simply did not have enough realistic images of capitalism and its inevitable risks. This resulted in, as Zizek points out, 'nostalgic mournings for the good old days', leading to the atrocities of nationalistic populism.
In my opinion it is not possible to give the 'socialism with a human face' another chance, however it certainly is possible to modify the liberal capitalism, giving him "social characteristica" - in fact, this is precisely the aim of Obama's efforts to reform the US health system. Without doubts, capitalism will survive, however its recent liberal form will undergo dramatic changes, which do not necessarily represent a bad development of affairs. On the contrary, this recurrent modification of capitalism (which may also be recognized as a normal aspect of its several historical developments throughout the last three centuries) shows us in a remarkable way the entire absurdity of Fukuyama's doctrine of the so called "end of history" - in a certain sense Fukuyama succeeded in establishing the well-known utopia comparable with the corresponding "beginning of a New Era" as a motto cultivated by Soviet communists and their comrades!

Unconditioned individual
I've heard Mr. Zizek speak on one of the American independent tv stations and I have to say that I couldnt' make sense of most of the stuff he was saying, mostly because he couldn't put a proper long sentence together in his speech. They call him some kind of philosopher over there...
